Nate Amos of Water From Your Eyes just released his first solo album with Matador Records called The Singer in My Band. Nate's solo work under the name This is Lorelei started in 2012 with many noncohesive mixes of tracks that felt much more like an unsorted playlist. Eventually, in recent years, his work began to take shape into a much more formal album format with albums like “Holo Boy” and “Box For Buddy, Box For Star”.

Now in 2026, Nate signed with Matador Records (other artists under Matador include Julien Baker, King Krule, and many other notable artists), along with releasing tour dates for “The Singer in My Band Tour” not long after Nate announced that the tour was actually supporting an album coming out in September under the same name.
On June 23rd, the first single for This is Lorelei's “The Singer in My Band” was released, titled “Billy Came Back”. This track features an extremely catchy guitar progression that repeats for most of the track and does a wonderful job encompassing the album.

Entering the album, it comes in at thirty-four minutes flat with an eleven-song tracklist. Most of the tracks are perfect for this time of year; I can vividly imagine walking through the city listening to this record while watching the leaves change colors on the trees.

Some standout moments on the album are “Oh No Now My” and the transition between “Nitro” and “Hey Sarah is it Going to Rain Forever”. As a whole, “Hey Sarah is it Going to Rain Forever” blew me away, from the vocals to the instrumental work and mixing of the song.

On the other hand, there is a track that I find to be unnecessary to the vision of the album, that song being “Kid with the Crown”. While sonically, “Kid with the Crown” is a good track, it feels like a subpar attempt at revisiting the idea of the title track from “Box for Buddy, Box for Star,” a song that is one of my favorites from that record because of its bright texture.

All things considered, I can see myself returning to this album throughout the fall due to its ear-catching mixing and atmosphere, and that is why I am giving “The Singer in my Band” by This is Lorelei an 8/10.
